According to research in New Zealand, people who do not sleep enough in childhood are likely to be overweight in the coming years.
244 children aged 3-7 years were examined. Every 6 months, the weight gain of the children and the amount of fat in their bodies were measured and sleep periods were monitored.
As a result of the research, the experts found that the children who sleep less when they are 3-4 years old have a higher proportion of fat in their bodies and are overweight. In addition to shorter sleep time, less movement and predominantly prepared foods should also be remembered as important factors in weight gain.
According to the results of the study, the experts stated that parents have a lot of work and children who are not at school age should be put to sleep for 9-10 hours at night and 1-2 hours during the day if possible.
