The crying in children

After we approached last week the topic related to language in children, we will try this week to approach another topic much discussed by moms - crying.
Whether it's babies, 4-5 year olds, older children or even teenagers, parents are always worried, scared or upset by their crying.
"Why are you crying?"It's a question we always hear from moms. They look for the reasons for crying and especially ways to prevent it or stop it." Stop crying ", it's a request we hear again since we were born ..." Cry for nothing " , "The cry is of no use", they are also frequent and we meet them whenever we are around children and their parents.

We can investigate the causes of crying in infants, which mothers have been able to detect since the first month: hunger, pain, fatigue, boredom, discomfort.
But we can also get closer to what parents feel when the baby is crying and how they are trying to calm him down. Often both go through a very difficult period, both physically and mentally, over fatigue caused by insufficient sleep, meals on births, sequelae after birth, completely new activities adding well-known post-natal depressive states, with sadness, guilt, feeling of uselessness, disappointment, crying "for no reason", etc.
Under these conditions, the baby's crying may become unbearable, meaning to the mother that he does not know or can take care of him, seeing himself unable to calm him, largely due to his own fear and agitation. The "colic" and the pains caused by the dental eruption are those accused as being at the origin of the crying, agitation or poor disposition of the child.
Then, we have to deal with the crying of the 1-2 year old, who is annoyed that it cannot be understood, that he does not reach where he wants, that he is not given certain objects. The crying is radically different from that of the babies and the mothers have to find new strategies to calm the baby.
However, many of them believe that the little one is crying too much and is looking for the causes of this crying. In our journey through childhood we reach the preschooler, where the crying can be both a nervous one, agitated, accompanied by movements and a state of opposition as well as a quiet one, sad or that leads to a psychic suffering.
Of course, despair, rejection, anger, anger and many others are expressed at this age, predominantly through crying and screaming until the child manages to express in words what he feels. If he is lucky enough to have one of the adults around him name his passing states and teach him to talk about them, the cry will be reduced in favor of words.
Of course, we could continue the discussion about crying by addressing the school period and then adolescence, to the extent that among you are mothers with children of these ages. All your questions and experiences will be of great use to us in our discussion on Monday, February 11, for both us and the parents who will read it later.
So I invite you to a free discussion in which you can honestly express what you think, feel, your fears, your opinions and experiences regarding children's crying.

Conclusions to the discussion

We met live and this week with expectant moms to talk and ask about their children.
10 mothers from 6 localities wrote their opinions and questions, trying to find answers for themselves and their children, as well as to help them with tips and suggestions for others.
We thank them very much and we invite those who, although they followed the discussion, did not post, to write to us because each experience is unique and we will all have to win if we find out.
The causes of the crying, the types of crying, ways to appease the child, "translations" of the different types of crying, the feelings and feelings behind the tears or screams, have kept our attention for 3 hours.
Also, more direct questions or specific problems such as the "spasm of crying". In addition, there have been other issues related to sleep and nutrition, which we will address in discussions specifically dedicated to these topics.
Tomorrow you will be able to read the article for this week which refers to play and play and I'm waiting for you Monday, February 18, at 2 pm, let's discuss this topic together.
A good week!

The Bethlehem, also called Birth, Manger, Portal or Pasitos, is the material representation of the scenes of the birth of Jesus and the visit of the Magi.

This representation is usually exhibited during the Christmas in homes, churches, schools, official institutions, shop windows, shopping centers, etc.

The staging of the nativity scenes is very varied. The figures can be made of wood, clay, ceramic, paper, cardboard or fired clay, and decorated in the most varied ways that the imagination can foresee.

The personalization of Christmas nativity scenes is a tradition in many families and many homes always set aside a special place to set up the Nativity scene. Nativity scenes often elicit the admiration of friends and family, and new ingredients are added each year.

The tradition of the history of the Bethlehem dates back to the 13th century. On Christmas Eve 1223, Saint Francis of Assisi gathered the residents of the Italian town of Greccio in a hermitage to celebrate the midnight mass.

Around a manger, with the figure of the baby Jesus molded by the hands of Saint Francis, praises were sung to the Mystery of the Birth. At the most solemn moment of the mass, that immobile figure came to life, smiled and extended its arms towards the Saint of Assisi.

Before the celebration of Greccio, there are antecedents of the plastic representation of the birth of Jesus. The remains of Nativity scenes have appeared in Roman catacombs and in churches, and other places linked to Christian worship.

It was from the fourteenth century when the tradition of putting the Nativity Scene at Christmas was consolidated in the Italian peninsula, which was later transferred to the rest of Europe.

In Spain, the Nativity Scene arrived in the middle of the 18th century, when Carlos III de Borbón became king of Spain. It first promoted the tradition of setting up the Nativity scene among the Spanish aristocracy, later becoming a popular practice throughout Spain and Latin America.

Today, the tradition of putting the Nativity Scene is maintained in all Catholic countries. The figurines are assembled with pieces made of wood, clay, plastic, metal or even ice (huge ice sculptures are built in the Nordic countries).

10 things that stress our children the most

10 things that stress our children the most Stress is an integral part of our everyday life. There is always whether we like it or not. Both in the world of adults and children. Even in the so-called stress-free upbringing, which has grown so many myths and misunderstandings that more than one comprehensive article has been written on this subject. The reason is prosaic, stress cannot be avoided or eliminated in 100%. What stress our children?

Children and stress

It is said that small children are like sponges - they absorb all emotions. They do not yet have well-developed defense mechanisms that would protect them from the effects of difficult emotions. It is also said that small children are like mirrors, which reflect us parents, our mistakes, limitations, beliefs. There is another truth that is very important in this topic - children see and understand more than we think.

That's why the parent’s efforts to save the child from any stress they are doomed to failure. And paradoxically good that it is so, because children from an early age should learn, with the support of their parents, how to deal with stress. This is very important because our stress increases with age. The older we are, the more we usually face greater challenges.

On the other hand, it also happens that the child is exposed to too much stress, with which he cannot cope without the active support of a psychologist. Therefore, the role of the parent is to watch the child closely to detect any difficulties in time. For this you need time that small and large children simply need. And the lack of which on the part of parents is a source of many later problems.

10 things that stress your child the most

  1. Death of mother / father
  2. Parents divorce - even the parents' cultural separation without using the child in the game between adults is a source of stress. There are no stress-free divorces.
  3. Family financial problems - the practice of psychologists and psychotherapists shows that children, even if they are protected against financial topics, are well aware of family problems in this regard.
  4. Moving house - and often parting with friends and favorite places
  5. Change of school - stress resulting from anxiety about how you will be picked up in a new place, whether you will arouse sympathy, or find friends
  6. Death of your favorite animal
  7. Mother's absence (e.g. hospital stay, longer trip)
  8. Parent's disease - whether physical or mental
  9. Physical violence - beating, humiliation, bullying
  10. Neglect - feeling of lack of support from parents, feeling that the parent has no time, is physically or mentally absent (source: Women's stress, G. Witkin, ed. Rebis)

Holmes TH, Rahe RH in "The Social Readjustment Rating Scale" as the most stressful for a teenager mention:

  1. Parent's death
  2. Unplanned pregnancy / abortion
  3. Parents divorce
  4. Appearance of visible body deformation
  5. He will become a father
  6. Over one year prison sentence for a parent
  7. Parental separation
  8. Death of brother and sister
  9. Lack of peer acceptance
  10. Sister's unplanned pregnancy

How to react wisely to a child's stress?

There are two main tips:

  1. Your child's stress must not be exaggerated.
  2. Your child's stress cannot be underestimated.

You should react in such a way that the child felt that his problems were important to the parent. The toddler should be aware that with any trouble he can turn to dad or mother, that he will be heard and comforted as well.

Parents should remain calm when facing child stress. Paying too much attention, for example, through the proverbial wringing of hands or wailing, can have the opposite effect to the intended. Trying to deal with the child's stress for him - also.

The toddler must get parental support. It has to feel that mom or dad is close, but at the same time, get a strong message that the parent believes that the child will cope with stress on his own. It is very important for the child to feel that they have coped even in a difficult situation. Every success in this area influences his sense of value and makes him stronger at the next problem.

Lack of wise coping with stress in children, according to many experts, is a major cause of rapidly increasing statistics on children's mental illness. Over the past two decades, the incidence of mental illnesses has increased by as much as 35 times among the youngest. There is no shortage of voices that leaving children alone, without good role models and pervasive momentum, makes them weaker than ever before.

From the author:

I create or arrange cartoons, observing situations in which we often participate ourselves. For us adults are a thing or a natural state in moments of our own experiences, experiences and observations. I often assign people to animals and vice versa. I make it fun and interesting. For a child, this is a certain stage of entering a new situation. It identifies with the characters of the fairy tale. He wonders, analyzes and asks why this is happening, why it is so. At such times, I try to explain to my daughters everything I understand. I speak honestly and openly. Even when certain events do not end happily at all.
