What is Asperger Syndrome?

Asperger's syndrome is a neurological disorder and is part of autism spectrum disorders, that is, of the group of disorders that have common features of autism. It is a problem named after Hans Asperger, a Viennese pediatrician, who first described the characteristics of the disease.

He noted that there is a specific behavioral pattern, especially in boys, that sum up a number of characteristics despite the fact that they have an intelligence and a development of language within normal limits:

  • impaired or delayed social skills;

  • communication deficiency;

  • poor coordination.

It is a syndrome that occurs in children, usually around the age of 3, but most are diagnosed between 5 and 9 years.

What are the causes of the syndrome?
