A room for two: how to create a corner for everyone?

You will soon be welcoming a new baby, but, for lack of space, your elder will have to share his room with him. Generations of children have shared their room with two, three or four ... By clever crafts, you will help your children build each a little corner of their own.

A progressive installation

  • The first few weeks, it will be best to install the newborn in your own room. Thus, her tears and the feedings of the night will not wake the soul. Later, the big brother or the little sister will probably be satisfied to see the baby arrive in his room, this change of place will end the privileged status that you had granted to the newcomer.
  • Before placing your baby in your eldest's room, make sure that he does not feel a sense of envy such as he might want to play a few tricks in his own way ... or, conversely, that his outbursts of affection will not cause him to choke kisses on "his" baby.

As we make his bed

  • If your child is 2 years and a half-3 years old, he will undoubtedly be delighted to give up his "baby bed" for you to buy him a "big bed".
  • If the room is not huge, you can already consider thebuying bunk beds (why postpone this purchase through a regular bed that you will have to separate?). But no question of getting the senior on the upper bunk before 6 years old. Arrange for him to deny access. Some models can first be used in single beds (the second floor waiting patiently in the cellar). These are the best because, even deprived of scale to access the second level, your elder could very well imagine a clever balance of chairs to achieve his goals.
  • The nesting beds save space, but they require children to tidy the deployment surface before going to bed.

A defined territory

The almost permanent source of conflict for two children occupying the same room lies in their respective space of land occupation. Everyone needs to know which area they have the "right" to invest. There are several tips to help them.

  • Share the room: a slatted shelf in the middle of the room (firmly held on the floor) is both a separation and a welcome storage element. It has the advantage of not blocking the light if the only window can not be shared. A sheer curtain or light-colored shade attached to a ceiling-studded rod also absorbs minimal light. Obviously, this separation is more "virtual" than tangible!
  • If the room is very small, it is better to play on separations "all in nuances". For example, tap the two walls on which the bed and the desk of each one rest in contrasting colors, choose duvets, furniture and stickers or paintings in styles corresponding to their gender and age ...
  • Bunk beds : in this case, these little devices are impossible to put in place. Arrange so that the spaces are separated by barriers, such as park elements or stairs protection.
  • Council +: Do not be too intransigent with your elder. If he comes to set up his "camp" in the living room, it may be that he needs to take off from his younger brother ...

At storage height

  • Ideally, everyone should have their own elements and organization. If you find it impossible to have two cupboards, two dressers, two bookcases, buy your children from storage bins of different colors or materials. First, assign the senior one the lower shelves and drawers and use the upper storage for the baby. When he starts to stand up, manipulate his own toys - and at the same time those of his sister or brother! -, you will reverse access. Your eldest will be proud to be considered at its true size.

Dads-to-be: Diet changes to boost your fertility

Nutrition has a direct impact on the potency of your sperm. Research shows that having a poor diet and drinking alcohol regularly, for instance, can lower the quality and quantity of sperm and make conception more difficult. And since infertility is nearly as much a man's issue as a woman's – about a third of fertility problems can be traced to men – eating healthfully now can boost your chances of conceiving a child.

Additional research shows that dads who are heavy drinkers risk damaging their sperm. If you drink, have no more than one or two drinks a day.

Whether drinking coffee harms or helps your fertility is less clear. The safest bet is to drink no more than a cup or two a day.

Which nutrients are most important?

Your diet should be every bit as balanced, varied, and nutritious as your partner's. According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, research shows that a healthy diet including plenty of fish, vegetables, and whole grains means more active sperm. On the other hand, a diet high in trans fats may lower the number of sperm in semen.

Some specific advice for future dads:

  • Eat plenty of foods rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants. These nutrients help prevent sperm defects and boost motility (movement). An 8-ounce glass of orange juice has about 124 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C. Aim to get at least 90 mg a day – more if you smoke (at least 125 mg).
  • Get enough zinc. A lack of zinc can make sperm clump together and contribute to infertility. Great sources to help you get the 11 mg you need daily include oysters (16 mg in six medium oysters), extra-lean beef tenderloin (4.8 mg per 3-ounce serving), baked beans (3.5 mg per 1-cup serving), and dark chicken meat (2.38 mg per 3-ounce serving).
  • Fuel up on folic acid. Studies suggest that men with low levels of this key B vitamin – the same one women need to reduce the baby's risk of neural tube birth defects – have trouble producing healthy sperm. You may be able to get the daily minimum of 400 micrograms from fortified breakfast cereals, leafy greens, legumes, and orange juice, but taking a folic acid or a multivitamin supplement for extra insurance can't hurt.
  • Cut out (or cut back on) alcohol. An occasional drink is generally considered safe, but studies show that drinking wine, beer, or hard liquor daily can reduce testosterone levels and sperm counts and raise the number of abnormal sperm in your ejaculate.
  • Take a multivitamin tablet every day. A pill is no substitute for a healthy diet, but a multivitamin can help you make sure you're getting the nutrients you need.

Baby milk powder crisis

Baby milk powder crisis

The Public Health Departments of the Capital but also of several counties have been left without milk powder for the newborns. The representatives of the institutions claim that this situation was reached because of the Ministry of Health, which did not complete the tender for the purchase of milk powder, although it had to be organized at the beginning of the year. The Public Health Departments were forced to provide their mothers with milk powder from the stocks left over from last year. The mayors of sectors 3, 4 and 5 of the Capital have already completed these reserves.

Problems are also in Buzau, where the parents daily beat the road to the Social Assistance Directorate. Since the beginning of the year, over two thousand babies have received only two boxes of powdered milk.
Alecsandrina Docuz, director of the Social Assistance Directorate Buzau: In March 2007 we received 1,517 boxes of milk powder, were released based on the recipes dated March 15, two boxes for children aged 0-12 months. Representatives of the Ministry of Health say that although the tender for the purchase of milk powder has not been completed, the authorities in each county will receive money next week to buy the food.
Vlad Iliescu, Secretary of State: The auction will be completed in 60 days from the approval of the government decision, which was approved last week. Now the procedures are done.

How humor is born in children

How humor is born in children

On April 1st, your child may have some jokes in store for you ... Do you know how the taste of jokes, and more generally humor comes to children? The answers of the psychologist Julie Hoskens.

: What is the first form of humor in children?

  • Julie Hoskens: All parents know her: it's the cuckoo-hidden that all children play. Once they have seen it at their parents, they can reproduce it as early as 12 months. This is the first form of humor because it is the first time children do an action they know will have a positive impact and will cause a laugh or smile reaction. The humor that the child privileges is always in close connection with his stage of development. Then the children will also have fun with hijacking objects. For example, they will put a cup on their head to act as if it were a hat, while they know very well that a small cup is for drinking. But, as they master the use of the object, they can have fun diverting it.

To be humorous, you need to be in control of a situation?

  • Absolutely, humor is fun to divert our standards! In the case of the cuckoo-hidden, the child has understood that a hidden object still exists, so he can enjoy this disappearance-reappearance and reproduce it to infinity hoping to make his parents laugh. Because humor is also very related to the relationship we have with others. And if we laugh alone, it is always in relation to an event that we have lived with someone.

What is the next manifestation of humor in children, around 2 years for example?

  • Once the child has more or less mastery of the language, between 2 and 4 years, the humor that the child practices is the incongruous labeling: to call a thing by another word. He likes to call Mom, Dad, a cat, a dog ... to observe the reactions of his parents and make them laugh. Then from 3 years and a half 4 years, comes the period of big words that also amuses him a lot, and the period pee-poo.

What is this period?

  • As soon as the child has understood that we have the right to say certain things and not others, as soon as he has incorporated the rules of politeness, the rules of life in society, he likes to transgress!

What attitude to face these pee-cacas that never end?

  • That's the difficulty for parents! They must be good spectators of the humor of their children, but also be able to make them understand the limits not to cross in the humor, especially during this period. Between them, children are having a great time! But parents can teach them that it must stay between them!
