Eggplant, cold meat and cheese sandwiches

Eggplant may be one of the vegetables with the lowest vitamin content compared to others such as zucchini or spinach, but they have great advantages when cooking for children, such as their high water content (close to 92%) and its low calorie intake.

Its texture is soft and smooth, so it is widely used in children's menus as a substitute for meat or other foods with more fat, being very effective in reducing childhood obesity.

  • 2 large aubergines
  • 6 slices of sausage
  • 6 slices of cooked ham
  • 12 slices of mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg
  • Bread crumbs
  • Oregano
  • Oil
  • Salt to taste

If you prepare it in the form of eggplant, cold meat and cheese sandwiches, they will enjoy it and you will know that they are having a balanced lunch.

1. Wash the eggplant. It can also be peeled, but the recipe will be healthier if the skin is preserved, as this is where the greatest amounts of nutrients accumulate. Cut into slices and place them in a bowl with plenty of water and a little salt.

2. Let the eggplant rest for half an hour, then drain it well and dry each slice with a little kitchen paper so that it loses some moisture and does not jump when fried.

3. Form the sandwiches by placing a slice of eggplant, salami or ham, a slice of cheese and add another slice of eggplant to close. Trim any protruding edges.

4. Put plenty of oil to heat in a pan. Place the beaten egg on one plate and the breadcrumbs with the oregano on another. Roll each sandwich over the egg and then roll it in breadcrumbs.

5. Fry the sandwiches in the skillet for a few minutes, until they start to brown. Place them on a plate lined with kitchen paper to absorb excess oil, and serve with cheese, yogurt, or tomato sauce.

Almost healthy food for children

The trend for healthy food is getting wider. Consumer awareness is growing. We don't want to eat "just anything" and even more, we don't want to feed our "any anything" with our children. Food producers have a real problem - they have to convince us that what they propose is not only tasty, but also healthy. They try their best, sometimes with great results - the famous Danonki, which for years were considered a healthy meal for the toddler. What else fake healthy food?

Here are some examples:

Almost like water

Strawberry, lemon, apple - tasty and sweet. The most popular it doesn't have a gram of lemon juice, but it has sugar, sodium benzoate, citric acid and flavors. The packaging, names and designations of this type of product, although lawful, are geared to mislead the consumer. Parents choosing "flavored water" are convinced that they are buying a healthy product, meanwhile they give it to their children cheap sugar orangeade. If you read the label carefully, you will find that "water" is actually a non-carbonated drink. At best sweetened with cane sugar. Just health!

Almost like yogurt

And how about delicious, creamy fruit yogurt ... thickened with gelatin? It also happens that modified starch performs the thickener function. In addition, indispensable sugar, glucose-fructose syrup, sweeteners, aromas, dyes. I intentionally didn't mention fruit. Sometimes they are not in the composition at all! How it's possible?

Well, there is a difference between strawberry yogurt and strawberry yogurt. In the first, next to the above-mentioned ingredients, we find fruit, in the second, small amounts of juice or aromas. Products that we consider to be healthy and needed for the child's development are, in fact, poor quality sweets. Sometimes harmful.

Healthy Sausage

This is an oxymoron. There are no healthy sausages. Even those with the highest meat content and best composition still belong to highly processed foods that should be avoided, and dietitians believe they have little nutritional value. Let's be clear, there are few companies that produce sausages free from preservatives. The most popular ones recently (90-93% of hams - praised on forums as a healthy dose of meat for a child), although without monosodium glutamate and phosphates, have in the composition a mass of other harmful E. In addition, eating through toddler sausages develops ... unhealthy eating habit sausages. Even if you serve those without preservatives - relatively decent.

Breakfast hits

Would any mother decide to give her child such breakfast consciously: a slice of bread smeared with a thick layer of margarine and sprinkled with an even thicker layer of sugar + a piece of hazelnut and thimble of cocoa milk? Funny? Many children eat exactly this "energetic" breakfast. What are we talking about? A velvety, brown and delicious cream spread on a slice of bread. According to the manufacturer, this is to give your child the healthiest start to the day. In the ad, we watch a stream of milk and nuts. In a composition like less of these healthy delights. More than half the jar is sugar, followed by vegetable fat, 13% hazelnuts, 7% cocoa and 5% milk powder. It is not so bad - after all, there are no dyes, preservatives, it is a pity that the nutritional value for medicine. There are plenty of empty calories for that. Well, then what to give your child for a healthy and quick breakfast? Maybe cereal? Breakfast cereals are definitely associated with health. Valuable cereals, added vitamins - a balanced and healthy breakfast! Provided that we turn a blind eye to the fact that 1/3 of the packaging is sugar (in the more expensive, cheaper ones are less).
