Magical Baking Christmas Tree. Science experiment for kids

Magical Baking Christmas Tree. Science experiment for kids

We suggest you do a very simple and original experiment to surprise your child. This is a magical baking soda Christmas tree. It is a simple and fun experiment to teach children the reaction of certain materials to contact with others. We tell you everything you need to do it.

  • Baking soda
  • Water
  • Green food coloring
  • Disposable pastry bag
  • Red glitter
  • Spoon
  • 2 glasses
  • Plastic baby bottle (optional)
  • Vinegar
  • Crystal bowl

1. You need half a glass of baking soda. Add a little water, but very little, and stir well with the spoon. You will see that the texture is still practically powdered bicarbonate.

2. Now find your green food coloring. It will give color to our Christmas tree. As long as you add a little less than a half teaspoon of food coloring, it will do. See when you stir it what texture and color your mixture acquires.

3. Now is time to add the red glitter. The tree will be much more festive. Stir well. Well, you need the other glass. Do you have the disposable pastry bag nearby? You put it in the glass with the tip down and cut everything that is left over. It only has to occupy the height of the glass. Make sure it is securely attached to the glass.

4. Put the mixture you just made into the pastry bag baking soda, water, food coloring and glitter. Squeeze the mixture well and see how it acquires a cone shape, thanks to the shape of the pastry bag. Put it in the freezer until the next day.

5. What is it already shaped like a Christmas tree? You see? Well, it was time to put the experiment into practice. Find the bowl, and carefully cut the plastic sleeve that covers the tree. Be especially careful with the final part, as it is more delicate.

6. Now comes the vinegar turn. You can pour it on the tree directly or use a little vinegar that you pour into a different pot like this one. And now comes the funniest part: pour the vinegar onto the baking soda tree without fear !! See how it reacts to contact with baking soda!

Explanation of experiment: This happens because they are reactive materials. In contact with each other, they form a product, a different matter. The acid of the vinegar in contact with the bicarbonate base produces water, sodium acetate and carbon dioxide. Fascinating!

Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole

Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole

Owlet brothers Kludd (voice of Ryan Kwanten) and Soren (Jim Sturgess) are raised on the legendary stories of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole and their epic battles against the forces of darkness. Soren loves these legends - he dreams of them, re-enacts them with his little sister Eglantine (Adrienne DeFaria), and he can see himself as part of them. But Kludd thinks of them as little more than stupid fairy tales, told to entertain little owlets, and nothing more.

The brothers are put to the test when they are kidnapped by henchmen for the Pure Ones - a group of evil elitist owls who are abducting owlets from all regions. The Pure Ones want to create a brainwashed army of vengeful 'orphans' who will help them conquer the Guardians of Ga'Hoole once and for all. Soren befriends and defends a weaker owl named Gylfie (Emily Barclay) and is forced to become a 'picker', a brainwashed zombie scrounging through old owl pellets to find bits of metal. Kludd callously denies his brother and becomes a favourite soldier.

Soren and Gylfie fight the effects of the brainwashing and are helped by one of the henchmen in a daring escape bid. Once free, they must find the legendary island of Ga'Hoole and enlist the Guardians to fight the Pure Ones and their forces of darkness. Along the way, they are joined by Twilight (Anthony LaPaglia) and Digger (David Wenham), two owls who help them on their quest and provide support when all hope seems lost.

Kidnapping; sibling rivalry; supremacist beliefs

This movie contains some violence. For example:

  • Kludd pushes Soren off a branch. They both fall to the ground.
  • The brothers are attacked by a wolf-like creature before being abducted by henchmen.
  • There are numerous battle scenes in which owls and other birds or small creatures are attacked or killed. All the owls wear razor-sharp blades attached to their talons, and they often slash and jab each other.
  • While learning to fly with other owlet soldiers, Kludd is forced to attack a little bird. All the owls want to get to this little bird, and they shove, push and bash each other as they race to catch it.
  • Soren and Gylfie are chased by evil-looking owls through dark tunnels and cloudy skies. Eventually they lose their pursuers.
  • Soren and his friends are attacked by a swarm of birds as they get near the coast.
  • Two of the scouts sent by the Guardians fall into a trap and are never heard from again.
  • A spy is killed by the Pure Ones.
  • The Guardians are all trapped by some sort of electronic force field that makes them immobile and causes pain. Meanwhile the Pure Ones prepare to kill them all.
  • Kludd attacks Soren and disappears into a raging fire. It looks like he has died.

Content that may disturb children

Under 5

In addition to the violent scenes mentioned above, this movie contains some scenes and effects that could scare or disturb children under five. For example:

  • Ominous dramatic music features throughout the movie.
  • Most of the Pure Ones' soldiers wear evil, creepy masks. One wears a mask to cover his missing beak and disfigured facial features. He and some of his henchmen have glowing red eyes that peer through their terrible-looking masks. The overall effect is sinister and scary.
  • Soren, Gylfie and other captives are brainwashed by being forced to stare at the moon and 'sleep' under its light. They 'awaken' with milky-white eyes and are little more than zombies.
  • Soren risks his life to fly through fire to help save the Guardians.

From 5-8

In addition to the violent scenes and scary visual images mentioned above, this movie contains some scenes that could scare or disturb children in this age group. For example:

  • A group of owlets arrive in a darkened cave after being abducted from their families. They are immediately told that they are orphans and that their families do not want them. Most look very scared, and all of them want to go home.
  • While trying to cross the ocean to reach the Island of Ga'Hoole, Digger's wings become frozen. He plummets into the sea while Soren races down to find him. He believes that his friend has been lost beneath the churning waves and despairs until one of the Guardians comes to the rescue.
  • Kludd takes Eglantine and offers her to the Pure Ones. She is terrified as she watches the soldiers and cowers behind Kludd. Later, when she begs to go home and promises not to tell what the Pure Ones are doing, she is brainwashed and ends up with the same milky-white, zombie stare as many other owlets. Soren finds her unresponsive and vacant, just a shadow of her former self. Soren is devastated, but he brings her back by telling her stories.

From 8-13

Children in this age group might also be disturbed by some of the scenes mentioned above.

Over 13

Children in this age group are unlikely to be disturbed by anything in this movie.

Ideas to discuss with your children

Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole is an intense, animated adventure with some very good special effects. Based on the books by Katherine Lasky, it appears to be a children's movie but is too dark and disturbing for young children.

The main messages from this movie are to believe in yourself, to trust in your dreams, and to remember that some things are real, even if you can't see them.

Values in this movie that you could reinforce with your children include:

  • courage and justice
  • defence of the innocent, small or weak
  • faith and determination even when things seem hopeless.

This movie could also give you the chance to talk with your children about real-life issues such as sibling rivalry and turning away from people you love. You could also draw similarities between the Pure Ones and human supremacist groups.

The explanation of divorce to children

In general, divorce is very traumatic for children, but if the spouses find it unbearable not to separate, staying together would be a deception for everyone, a family sham and, probably, children would suffer much more watching daily arguments and a lack of love or obvious affection, that if the divorce were consummated.

It is clear that divorce is not good and, many times, depending on how the separation develops, it can mean a difficult pain to overcome for the children. For this reason, first of all, avoid bringing children into conflict. It is important for their emotional stability that parents know how to differentiate between the role of a couple and the role of father and / or mother.

It would be ideal for the children to be informed about the situation of marital breakdown in an appropriate way, according to the age of each one, that the children of their father or mother were not spoken badly, that the children were given time to assimilate and understand the new reality, that the children feel safe, and that all have a professional orientation and advice to help them communicate and solve the problem. It would also be important that the parents themselves will inform directly to their children about their separation process and that they do not find out from third parties.

- Discuss the situation clearly. Explain to your child that mom and dad can no longer and don't want to live together and that from now on they will live in different houses.

- Explain what separation is and its consequences. Talk to your children about the reality of the separation, being careful not to blame anyone.

- Consolidate ties of love and affection. Repeatedly assure your children that you both continue to love them the same or more than before. The father or mother who does not have custody can see them whenever they want.

- Respect the routine of your children. Keep your child's usual routine unchanged: home, environment, relationships with friends, school, schedules, etc.

- Avoid blaming. Assure your children that they have no responsibility in the divorce. They are not guilty'. The responsibility belongs to mom and dad alike.

- Talk about a definitive situation. Explain clearly that the divorce is final, that there is no possibility of going back.

- Keep positive opinions. Try to protect your child's positive opinions of both parents.

- Facilitate your child's relationship with the other parent. By being flexible in visiting hours and giving in on designated dates, you will help your child maintain his emotional references.

- Share concerns and tasks. Discuss with the non-custodial parent everything related to the education and health of your child.

- Children are not objects. Fight not to appropriate them and yes for their freedom.

- Affection and presence. It is necessary to be with them to give them love.

- You are still father. Fight for your children out of love and not out of hatred or resentment.

- You are an example for them. Children will continue to learn from your behavior. Behave well. If what you want is respect, respect your child.

- Value the importance of both. Children need father and mother. No matter how humiliated, unprotected you may find yourself, no one can give your child what he needs, only his parents. For them, the father and mother are unique and irreplaceable.

Wonderful almonds?

Is the little one sick a lot? Get the almonds out! That's why it's not that simple ... Before you decide on surgery, get to know the currency risks and the ways to prevent them from the homeopathic side-to-nose perspective!

Wonderful almonds?

Let's say routine - but with a big scandal, every year, little kids die of their events. Almost every throat-like child has been removed from almonds - the number of surgeries is decreasing. We parents, of course, would like to see such drastic interventions never again. However, we also expect the doctor to make sure that the little one does not suffer. Deadlock - or is there a solution?

Not a superfluous organ!

Many doctors remove almonds as lightly as removing a single person. It's like malignant growth, a superfluous organ that is more harmful than beneficial to the body. in turn plays a very important role in the maintenance of health and in the perfect functioning of the immune system. The pharynx is surrounded by lymphatic vessels, including almonds. It is the gateway of the throat that helps to fight infections. When it swells, it just means that it works well: the defense cells become unstable due to blood cancer, so the organ itself becomes larger. If the child receives antibiotics, the protection stops and the almonds remain large. Newer and more infections and drugs will alleviate the swollen state of the almond and suppress the body's natural defenses.
Parents expect almonds to go from being sick to a tap. There are times when this happens, but in many cases the operation fails, the disease recurs, just not the tonsil fires at this time, but the infection passes through the lower passages. The little patient will have tonsillitis, catarrh, or stubborn coughing, which will also cause longer healing.

Are you sure you need to take it out?

Five years after tonsillitis, especially when the disease returns in the summer, the phrase "this huge almond must be removed!" According to our specialist, Dr. Julianna Gellér, a fistula, phonograph, and homeopathic physician, the size of the almonds alone should not be a cause of surgery, unless it causes some kind of cerebral palsy in the child. Even so, it is worthwhile first to find out what has become of the almond patient and what keeps the body inflamed.
- I once had a patient who had huge tonsils. In time of illness, she breathed in, breathlessly, and her hearing was getting worse, the doctor remembers. - Many times, in a similar situation, there was some alternative treatment, but in this case, too, I opted for surgery. But the mother did not agree. He was very afraid of the hospital, the anesthetic, so he had to look for another way. With great patience, homeopathy and a diet that required allergy, he managed to solve the problem. Finally, it seemed almost unbelievable, but the almonds had shrunk to normal size. The baby boy is not sick anymore, but if he gets cold, his tonsils will not grow big enough to cause trouble.

Not dangerous!

- It is a great apology to believe that tonsillectomy is a harmless routine intervention The doctor firmly says. - You shouldn't underestimate the almonds. They sleep, they put a tube in the child's throat. All this comes with little risk.
Regularly, for four or five days, the children were kept in the hospital for observation, and now, after just over twenty hours, everyone is being repatriated. So close observation rests on the parent. Some people think that the almond is included in the scope of "one-day surgery". However, I think we should think more critically about these fatal cases. You should be aware that in case of post-mortem you will need specialist medical attention and medical history! Even a well-trained pediatrician cannot treat bleeding, as it is very difficult to approach and treat a throat.

Time is needed!

Doctors are not in a precarious position, as parents insist that they come up with a quick solution, because they cannot constantly get lost in the workplace. However, it is not possible to control the period of liberation. Whether due to illness or staying home for weeks after surgery, the child needs constant supervision: not the eighteen-year-old poorly-behaved dude, not the neighbour's, but the maternal attention he receives.
- If your child has recurrent tonsillitis, you should also think about what is causing the problem. Throat disorders generally indicate that there is an untreated problem in the patient's life that he or she does not want to talk about, even though he or she would like to. - Typically, those with lymphatic system disease and almonds are included to suppress and conceal their problems. If you manage to release the tension inside you, you will heal faster, and you may not need it.

What do I need to pay attention to after surgery?

- Occasionally ask the kid to spit on, but not to the point! If the colors are pink or bloody, immediately go back to the church!
- Make sure you have one liter of fluid a day! If your child does not dare to swallow or drink, he can dry out! It heals more slowly, and if you have a bleeding wound, you can bleed without any reserves! If you can't get him to drink, take him back to the hospital!
- You can give him a leggings, you can rub his neck with cold, wet clothes, if he likes it. All of this can reduce your blood pressure.
- Just no jumping, jerky, paddling in warm water! These should definitely be kept away for a few days, even if you have a good time! Let the sun be full of storytelling, drawing, resting, lying down.
- Return to baby beans or cream soups. From these, the patient can take all the nutrients that are needed for healing. But if you refuse food for a few days, you don't have to worry about it, and during the toasting period, it's completely normal. If you drink enough, you don't have to force the cook.

But why is his throat red?

Permanent throat inflammation, especially if you do not go with a fever, suggests that it is not the viruses who are responsible, but the environment!
- In many homes, the air dries because of the warmth, and the child breathes in the mouth during the night and sleep. Her mouth, throat and redness will dry out.
- If the parents smoke beside the child, not only their lungs, but also the lining of the mouth and throat will be as red as a smoker.
- If you keep your gymnastics outdoors in wet, cold weather, your panting child will breathe in your mouth and your throat will dry out and become red.
- If you wake the child out of bed in wilderness, kindergarten, you can smell the smog in the wind. This is generally unhealthy and can cause the child's throat to catch fire when he tries to filter out harmful substances.

Types of back pain during pregnancy

Three out of four women will suffer some degree of back pain in this period. This pain can vary from moderate to acute and will appear between the 5th and 7th month of pregnancy, but it could also surprise appearing from the 8th week of gestation, this usually occurs when they are women who already suffered from back pain before becoming pregnant.

However, although it is a very common ailment, it should not be taken lightly as if it were a normal process of pregnancy. For a pregnant woman, back pain can have a very negative impact on her way of life and on her day-to-day activities (loss of productivity at work or perhaps cause a pregnancy much more complicated than normal), for Thus, Reflexology becomes an indisputably necessary therapy in this period, either as preventive therapy, preventing future back pain, or as a specific therapy helping the pregnant woman to alleviate said pain.

    - Lumbar Pain: It is located at the height of the waist towards the center of the back. Sometimes it can spread to the leg or foot. The pain usually increases or worsens when holding body postures for a long period of time (sitting or standing) and when performing repeated movements (standing up repeatedly).

    - Posterior pelvic pain: It occurs in the back of the pelvis, this pain is four times more common in pregnancy than low back pain. It is a deep pain that occurs at the waist, below or along the sacrum. It can occur on one or both sides of the body, and the pain can sometimes spread to the buttocks and thighs, usually not reaching the knee. Unfortunately this pain does not disappear after rest, but with Reflexology, if you can improve.

What is back pain like during childbirth? This pain is different from back pain during pregnancy, it is a pain very similar to an intense menstrual cramp, being a persistent pain that increases its intensity and frequency in a short period of time

Whatever the pains, they are all as a result of weight gain causing pressure on the back, changes the body's center of gravity, muscle imbalances occur, muscles fatigue more quickly than normal causing poor posture, and hormonal production of relaxin and estrogen can cause problems, due to the laxity of the joints, especially in the pelvis.

Many people prefer to wait before making changes to prevent an imbalance. They only act accordingly when the disease or symptoms of a certain condition appear, deciding exclusively at that time to receive Reflexology treatment. A pregnant woman has limitations in the administration of drugs in pregnancy and this natural therapy is an excellent solution to relieve back pain. As a reflexologist specialized in maternity, I advise you to combine a specific reflexology program for pregnant women with your pregnancy, this will save you a lot of discomfort that pregnancy inevitably generates.

Back pain must be treated to ensure a better quality of life for the pregnant woman in this period, to facilitate an uncomplicated delivery and to avoid possible back pain that could last after pregnancy. That is why I advise you to find an experienced reflexologist specialized in maternity to begin to enjoy the future arrival of your baby without pain.
